Mapping the potential for REDD
REDD+ - reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, plus conservation of forest carbon stocks, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries1 – has emerged in recent years as a potential response to tackling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions arising from the tropical deforestation and land use change. Although primarily intended as a climate change mitigation mechanism, REDD+ also has the potential to provide further benefits through maintenance or restoration of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
